Film ‘Conclave’ Helmer Edward Berger On Taking Colin Farrell Through A Macau Casino Fever Dream In ‘Ballad Of A Small Player’
After following his Oscar-winning muddy World War I epic ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ with the Vatican for ‘Conclave,’ director Edward Berger has taken another radical turn, this time to the gaudy glitz and desperation of the Macau casinos for Netflix’s ‘Ballad of a Small Player’, which is gearing up for its world premiere at TIFF. Though not one for the gaming tables himself, Berger discusses his high-stakes gambles in spurning sure-bet franchise jobs like Ocean’s Eleven and James Bond for movies that on the surface bear little resemblance to each other.
