Gray Co. lieutenant dies following medical emergency
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Gray County Sheriff’s Department said one of its deputies died after a medical emergency on Wednesday night.
Matt Markel died after a medical emergency at his home. He was taken to the hospital in Garden City, where he died.
Anyone who knew Matt at all on any level knew him as a consummate professional in mind, body and spirit," the sheriff’s office said. “He was a joker and you could always count Matt to make the best of any situation he was in. He loved his family above all else, and his pride of his family at home at the sheriff’s office was undeniable.”
The sheriff’s office did not say how long Markel had been employed there, but he was promoted to lieutenant this year.
